Drawing from the musical heritage of Ecuador and Brazil, the José Pino Trio brings a fresh and expressive sound to the Latin jazz scene. With a strong foundation in traditional rhythms and an ear for modern harmony, the trio explores original compositions that are both deeply rooted and constantly evolving.
At the heart of the trio is José Pino, a Zurich-based multi-instrumentalist and composer from Quito, Ecuador. For this trio format he performs on bass guitar, bringing his deep connection to Latin American traditions and jazz into the rhythmic core of the group. He is joined by Javier Leutenegger on piano and Mauro Martins on percussion.
Together, they create music that is intimate yet energetic, weaving subtle textures and bold improvisation into every performance. Whether on a festival stage or in a quiet listening room, the José Pino Trio invites audiences into a rich sonic conversation — one that celebrates tradition while embracing innovation.
