Composed by the renowned María Elena Walsh in 1972, Como la cigarra, arranged and performed by José Pino, took on a profound new meaning when it was brought to life at the end of March 2020, during the 15th day of self-isolation amid the global coronavirus pandemic in Switzerland. In a time of uncertainty and isolation, Pino's rendition serves as a powerful message of hope, resilience, and unity, reminding us of the strength we find in music and the human spirit, even when separated physically.
LA CASA DE NADIE ORCHESTRA
New World Symphony
This excerpt from the fourth movement of Antonín DvoÅ™ák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (New World Symphony) was recorded remotely from home studios across America, Europe, and Asia in April 2020, during the global pandemics. The project, led by Byron Coba and Fernanda Delgado in Quito, brought together musicians from around the world, each recording their part in isolation, uniting their talents to create a collaborative performance despite the distance.

500 Miles High

Arranged and directed by José Pino in 2022, this rendition of Chick Corea's 500 Miles High showcases an impressive international lineup with Lula Galvão on electric guitar, Mauro Martins on drums, and Dimitris Christopoulos on double bass. The brass section includes Humberto Amésquita, Oswaldo Parra, Chico Macedo, Gabriel Otoya, and Daniel Schenker. Recorded across multiple locations in Zurich, Karlsruhe, Vevey, Milan, and Rio de Janeiro, mixed and mastered in Copenhagen.

Camino a Berna, a composition for piano and additive synthesis by José Pino, was performed for the first time by Lars Carl Schmid in 2018, masterfully blending acoustic and electronic elements with piano and keyboard.

Tangerine

José Pino transcribed Chet Baker's iconic solo from Tangerine (from the 1974 album She Was Good To Me, CTI Records) and arranged it for five saxophones and rhythm section. Chico Macedo from the Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica Brasil masterfully performed all five saxophone parts, with Dimitris Christopulos on double bass and Daniel Bagutti on drums. Recorded in Basel, Vevey, and Bellinzona, the project was mixed and mastered in Copenhagen by Ask Kæreby.
