Where music travels
A recording changes the conditions in which music can exist. What begins in a particular room, between particular musicians, can be heard again in another place and at another time. La casa de nadie Records follows this movement, carrying performances beyond the circumstances in which they were made.
The catalogue moves between original compositions, reinterpretations, live recordings and collaborative projects. Some releases grow out of work developed at La casa de nadie; others begin elsewhere, connecting different artists, places and ways of making music.
Distance has sometimes shaped how the music is made. During 2020 and 2021, musicians recorded separately across America, Europe and Asia. Other projects have connected artists between Zurich, Quito, Rio de Janeiro, Milan, Karlsruhe and Copenhagen.
Cover artwork, music videos and filmed performances develop alongside the recordings. Image and sound become different ways of approaching the same work, each extending how it can be experienced and shared.
Across the catalogue, composition, interpretation and improvisation intersect in different ways. A written piece is rearranged; a live performance is captured; musicians thousands of kilometres apart appear on the same track.
Each recording begins with a particular moment, place and set of circumstances. Records allows that moment to travel.

JOSÉ PINO
Como la cigarra
Written by María Elena Walsh in 1972, Como la cigarra was arranged and performed by José Pino in Switzerland in March 2020, during the first weeks of the Covid-19 lockdown. Recorded at home on his fifteenth day of self-isolation, the performance places the song in the particular circumstances of that moment.
LA CASA DE NADIE ORCHESTRA
New World Symphony
This excerpt from the fourth movement of Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (New World Symphony) was recorded remotely in April 2020, during the first weeks of the Covid-19 pandemic. Led by Byron Coba and Fernanda Delgado in Quito, the project brought together musicians across America, Europe and Asia, each recording from home to create a single collective performance.
JOSÉ PINO BIG BAND
500 Miles High
José Pino’s 2022 arrangement of Chick Corea’s 500 Miles High was recorded across Zurich, Karlsruhe, Vevey, Milan and Rio de Janeiro. The ensemble features Lula Galvão on electric guitar, Mauro Martins on drums and Dimitris Christopoulos on double bass, joined by Humberto Amésquita, Oswaldo Parra, Chico Macedo, Gabriel Otoya and Daniel Schenker on brass. The recordings were mixed and mastered in Copenhagen by Ask Kæreby.

Insensatez
Recorded live during La casa de nadie Podcast, José Pino and Alessandro Pittini perform Antonio Carlos Jobim’s Insensatez as a guitar duo. The performance grew out of the conversation, moving naturally from words into music.

Influência do Jazz
Jairo Gallegos on alto saxophone and José Pino on guitar perform Carlos Lyra’s Influência do Jazz, composed in 1963. The track was recorded separately in Quito and Zurich in October 2020.
LARS CARL SCHMID
Camino a Berna
Camino a Berna was written by Ecuadorian composer José Pino after moving to Switzerland and premiered in Zurich by Lars Carl Schmid in 2018. Composed for piano and additive synthesis, the work brings acoustic piano into dialogue with electronically generated sound.
JOSÉ PINO TRIO
Tangerine
José Pino transcribed Chet Baker’s solo from Tangerine, recorded on the 1974 album She Was Good to Me (CTI Records), and arranged it for five saxophones and rhythm section. Chico Macedo of the Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica Brasil performs all five saxophone parts, joined by Dimitris Christopoulos on double bass and Daniel Bagutti on drums. Recorded across Basel, Vevey and Bellinzona, the track was mixed and mastered in Copenhagen by Ask Kæreby.

In a Sentimental Mood
Danny Herrera on trumpet and José Pino on guitar perform Pino’s arrangement of Duke Ellington’s 1935 composition In a Sentimental Mood. Recorded between Quito and Zurich in November 2020, the track was mixed and mastered in Copenhagen by Ask Kæreby.
