On two Saturdays — 7 and 21 March 2026 — Cuban percussionist and educator Marvin Diz presents a rhythm workshop in Zurich exploring technique, energy, and spirituality through Afro-Latin percussion traditions.

Internationally recognised percussionist Marvin Diz arrives in Zurich with The Rhythm Laboratory, a workshop inviting musicians and rhythm lovers to explore the deeper language of percussion—where tradition, technique, and inner awareness converge.

Rhythm is more than pulse. In the hands of Cuban percussionist Marvin Diz, it becomes a living system—an evolving language shaped by history, energy, and cultural memory.
This March, Zurich hosts The Rhythm Laboratory: Conscious Rhythm—Technique, Energy and Spirituality, a two-part workshop designed for musicians who wish to deepen their understanding of rhythm not only as a technical skill, but as a physical and spiritual practice.
On Saturday 7 and 21 March, participants will engage with the foundations of Afro-Latin percussion, exploring how rhythm can function simultaneously as structure, expression, and collective dialogue.
A Percussionist Between Tradition and Evolution
Raised in Cuba in a deeply musical environment, Diz developed his artistic identity through a strong connection to traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms and their cultural roots. His early studies at the Conservatorio Gerardo Delgado Gauche and the Escuela de Superación para la Música Félix Varela y Morales provided a rigorous foundation that would later support an international career.
Today based in New York City, Diz is widely recognised as one of the most innovative percussionists and educators of his generation. His work constantly navigates the delicate balance between preserving the essence of Cuban musical traditions and pushing them toward new contemporary expressions.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with an impressive range of artists, including Brian Lynch, Eddie Palmieri, Pedrito Martinez, Yosvany Terry, Albita Rodríguez, Alex Cuba, Jojo Mayer, and Osmany Paredes, among many others.
His work also contributed to the Grammy-winning album Simpático by Brian Lynch, recognised as Best Latin Jazz Album in 2006.

The Educator
Beyond performance, Diz has developed a remarkable international career as a teacher and mentor. He has led workshops and masterclasses across universities, conservatories, and festivals throughout the Americas and Europe—including institutions in Costa Rica, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, the Netherlands, and the United States.
His workshops combine historical context, rhythmic analysis, body awareness, and improvisation, encouraging musicians to approach percussion as a holistic discipline where intellect, intuition, and physical energy intersect.
The Rhythm Laboratory
The Rhythm Laboratory is designed as an immersive learning environment. Participants will explore:
Afro-Cuban rhythmic structures
interaction between percussion instruments
rhythmic awareness and body coordination
improvisation within traditional frameworks
rhythm as energetic and spiritual practice
The workshop welcomes percussionists, drummers, instrumentalists, dancers, and anyone interested in rhythm as a universal language.
